Frequently asked questions...

Q. How long will I need to attend counselling?

A. The number of counselling sessions you have will depend on various factors but mostly the presenting issue and your desired goals.  This will be discussed with you during your first session.

Q. What will happen during sessions?

A. During your first session, the counsellor will discuss the reasons why you wish to have counselling, and collect background information as well as help you set some goals to work on.  In subsequent sessions, you will explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and circumstances that prevent you from moving forward in a positive direction.  The counsellor will assist you in managing stress, finding better ways to cope, and deal with the problem you're experiencing.  Your goals will be monitored and frequently reviewed.

Q. Where does counselling take place?

A. You can choose either in-person, online, or telehealth services.  Please note, changes may be made at any time and without notice to in-person counselling services depending on Covid-19 policies and restrictions.

Q. How long are sessions?

A. Sessions are either 50 or 90 minutes depending on clients' needs.

Q. What happens if I can't make a session?

A. Life is full of uncertainties.  If you can't make a session please call 778-873-2800 48 hours prior to the date of the session, to reschedule.  If you need to cancel a session, again 48 hours notice prior to the date of the session is required so that the session can be offered to another client.  Please be mindful that if less than 48 hours cancellation notice is provided or you don't show, you may be charged a cancellation fee of $50 plus GST.

Q. Will what I say in counselling stay confidential?

A. Your safety, privacy, and confidentiality are paramount, and as such what you disclose during counselling will be kept strictly confidential and not shared with other parties without your permission except in certain circumstances denoted under British Columbia law.  This will be discussed with you in detail at the beginning of counselling, and referred to throughout therapy, so you can make the best decision possible.

Q. What are your fees and are they covered by MSP and other insurance providers?

A. Fees are as follows: $130 (including GST) for a 50 minute session; $200 (including GST) for a 90 minute session.  Psychological services are not covered by the British Columbia Medical Services Plan however many extended health plans cover counselling.  It is best to check with your healthcare plan provider before you start therapy.  FHNA, ICBC, and/or CVAP clients must seek approval for funding prior to receiving services.  Please contact Soulful Solutions Counselling & Consultancy to discuss your needs.
